Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Install Guide (Deprecated)

Created by Kevin Schmidt - HCPro, Modified on Thu, 9 Oct at 3:13 AM by Kevin Schmidt - HCPro

This guide has been deprecated. Please refer to the new version How To – Install Azure Virtual Desktop | Knowledge Base | Help Desk (ahima.org)

Remote Desktop is the connection to AVD.  There is a Remote Desktop install application that was rolled out with PSM prior to e78 which may be installed already, depending on user's hiring date.  This is a legacy application.  The advised solution is the Remote Desktop app that has been pushed to AHIMA desktops via Intune.  It is a Windows Store app and not a legacy installation.

1.  confirm that the Windows user has the Remote Desktop app, noted by the icon :

if not, direct the user to the Microsoft Store, search for "Microsoft Remote Desktop app" and click Get

2.  if this is for users needing the Report Server, move on to Step 3.  If for Aptify, confirm with the user that they do not depend on or require multiple open sessions within Aptify.  If confirmed, uninstall the legacy Remote Desktop via Programs in the Control Panel.  This can also be done in the Start Menu once you are familiar with which application icon to look for.

3.  Launch the Remote Desktop app from step 1 and be available to assist the user through MFA as needed.

4.  The setup is complete and the steps below are not to be used unless approved for your ticket via escalation to AHIMA support
