This tool lets users audit E/M chart details and determine the appropriate level supported by the documentation. It can be accessed from the SelectCoder home page by clicking on Start Audit.
The tool will open to the Chart Details tab. Every field does not need to be filled in, but make sure to select the E/M guidelines you would like to use from the dropdown menu, as well as the service type, patient type, and code set.
Click Next or choose the next appropriate tab from the top of the tool. Progress through the History, Exam, Medical Decision Making, and Time tabs, filling in the appropriate details. Look at the tips on the right side for additional advice. On the results page, the fee data will be the National amount by default, but you can select your location from the dropdown menu.
If you entered the billed E/M code on the Chart Details tab, you will see it and the fee here compared to the results of the audit, which will note any fee difference, if applicable. You can add notes in the boxes on the right or override the audited code and recalculate the results by clicking E/M Code Override below the Audit Details. The audit can be saved, then you can print the results or export them as a PDF or text file.
Note that the SelectCoder team cannot observe, or retrieve, the contents of E/M audits. To perform another audit, click Clear Audit or exit the tool without saving.
