FY2022 ICD-10-CM Changes

October 1, 2021 ushers in 159 new, 20 revised and 32 invalidated ICD-10-CM codes. These, and other, changes have necessitated more than a thousand edits in the Tabular and Alphabetic Index – with another hundred found in the Index to External Causes and Table of Drugs & Chemicals.

And then, of course, there is PDGM – how do these new codes fit into the payment model and what other adjustments are in store? Prepare for the most significant changes by learning how to look up key new and revised codes, and where to find pertinent guidance. - Recorded Sept. 29, 2021

Symptoms

For years, CMS warned agencies against assigning symptoms as primary in home health or listing “superfluous” symptom codes on claims. Then, when PDGM went into effect in January 2020, symptom codes were largely left off the primary diagnosis clinical group lists.

All that said, at times, coding symptoms is not only okay, but encouraged. Discover how to look up underlying, definitive diagnoses on the Coding Center, plus how to search for and assign symptom codes when appropriate. - Recorded Aug. 25, 2021
