Arthritis & Osteoporosis

The musculoskeletal system chapter includes conditions affecting bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons and connective tissues. In home health, among the most common bone and joint conditions seen in patients are arthritis and osteoporosis. These diagnoses demand specificity, but the inconsistency in how some of the subcategories are broken down can make accurately identifying these conditions difficult. Join us as we share the most effective ways to look up and assign these codes using the Coding Center. - Recording Coming Soon!

FY2024 Code Changes

The FY2024 code year will see the introduction of 395 new codes plus another dozen with revisions to their code descriptors. Among the most impactful to home health are codes to further identify laterality and healing status for osteoporosis with pathological fracture; and codes to enhance tracking and progression of Parkinson's disease. These and other, changes have necessitated nearly a thousand edits each in the Alphabetic Index and Tabular – with another 75+ found in the Index to External Causes, Neoplasm Table and Table of Drugs & Chemicals. Prepare for the most significant updates by learning how to look up key new and revised codes, and where to find pertinent guidance.. - Recorded Sept. 28, 2023
